Hopital
Lumiere is located high in the mountains of southern Haiti, 25 miles
inland from the
southern seaport of Aux Cayes and a bumpy, four and a half hour
drive from the capital city of Port-au-Prince. The hospital
has grown to include the following medical services: general
surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology,
urology and orthopedics. Ancillary services include a well
equipped laboratory, x-ray department, pharmacy, central supply and
physical therapy department.
People come to Hopital Lumiere because they know the care given is
excellent and the teams are committed to high standards that reflect
good stewardship of God-given talent. Though fee-for-service,
the prices are low because the team is committed to serving all
classes and levels of Haitian people and volunteers from around the
world give their time to work at the clinic for short term visits.
The facilities are pleasant and the personnel are warm, courteous
and active in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in the midst of
their lives and work.
The primary hospital (Hopital Lumiere) admits about 3,000 patients
each year and serves an additional 10,000 on an out-patient basis at
the clinic adjacent to the hospital.
A separate Community Health Program at Bonne Fin serves a population
of approximately 60,000, offering vaccinations, health training,
family planning and prenatal and child development clinics.
Ministering to the needs of the Haitian people gives an open door to
minister to their spiritual needs as well. Each patient is
given the opportunity to hear and respond to the Gospel of Jesus
Christ.
The Community Health Program has been applauded by USAID as
"the model of what can be done in Haiti." CHP is built on
patient referral and follow-up programs conducted by local churches.
